Description by Nancy Ellis: Film about the fire at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Burlington in 1971 and the rebuilding and dedication in 1973. I shot the footage from the day after the fire through the day of the dedication. I used footage of the fire itself and commentary by the bishop and Marcelius Parsons, news commentator, shot by WCAX. The rest I shot over a period of 2 years.
Additions by Deborah Ellis, Nancy Ellis's daughter:
A documentary about a devastating fire that destroyed St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Burlington, VT, in 1971. Subsequent community deliberations for redefining the cathedral and its relationship with the surrounding Burlington community followed the fire. A new site for the cathedral was swapped with the city for the old site. A rebuilt cathedral was completed in 1973 at the corner of Battery Street and Pearl Street. The film includes the fire, the ruins, deliberations, rebuilding, and dedication of the new building.
